This restaurant is consistently busy for one reason and one reason only: the Chinese steamed dumplings sometimes referred to as jiaozi. The daring creations are what set this place apart from many of the other nondescript dumpling houses in L.A. The jiaozi filled with Pacific salmon, rock cod, and pork, shrimp and sea cucumbers are things you’re not likely to find anywhere else. Some of the dough is even brightly colored, thanks to the infusion of beets, spinach or carrots, another rarity. If none of these jiaozi beckon, Dumpling 10053 also offers popular heart-warmers like a fried pork chop with rice, and beef noodle soup. While relatively small, this is a more attractive version of other dumpling houses found up and down Valley Boulevard.
