Dutch Oven Bakery Restaurant Review:

David Davis and his sons produce cakes, pies and mind-blowing honey muffins from within this bare-bones bakery in residential Altadena. Davis inherited a honey bran muffin recipe from the previous owner, then took the concept to another level by substituting yellow cake for bran, and stuffing them with blueberry, lemon, pineapple and strawberry. Each one features a sticky honey dome, which keeps the fruit-clustered interior moist. Davis is most proud of his sweet potato pies, with their silky orange filling and buttery crusts. Miniature versions of several pies are also available, in addition to bear claws, macaroons and even empanadas. Davis also devotes display case space to a variety of textbook pound cakes and cookies. The bakery sells a few savory dishes, such as croissants filled with deli meats and cheese.
