E&O Restaurant Review: When stylish E&O opened it set a new standard. Overnight it became the place to see and be seen and though other venues, similar in feel and ambition, have opened since then, E&O still packs them in. Minimally designed with an Asian feel, the dark walls and wooden floors make a suitable backdrop for the young and fashionable clientele. The good news is that the food remains as well produced as ever. Up to the minute dim sum---chilli-salt squid, kid prawn and cod gyoza, baby spare ribs---is served all day. Otherwise, it’s a mix of Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes including curries, sashimi of an adventurous kind (first-rate peppered tuna with miso aïoli), barbecue dishes and specials like prawn pad thai. Desserts run from house-made sorbets to vanilla and lemon grass crème brûlée. The wine list is fairly priced; the place buzzes and the staff are good. The downside is that it gets very busy, but you can always prop up the very cool bar while you’re waiting. |
