This Pan-Asian venue has a lot going for it. It's a good snack place for shoppers and for after-work cocktails for the local 9-5ers, and a restaurant that offers dinners and live entertainment Sundays and Mondays. E & O's spacious dining room now has rich and earthy spice tones instead of stark white, but still evokes the colonial spirit that drives its food. Taking inspiration from India, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan, the dishes are split, tapas-like, into small and large plates. The salty, Indian-style naan breads are quite good and fried items like the corn fritters with a chili-soy dipping sauce are nicely prepared. For main dishes, hardwood-grilled ahi is paired with a spicy eggplant salad and baby bok choy. Korean marinated skirt steak is grilled and served with classic kimchi cabbage, pickled cucumbers and sesame watercress. Desserts are also exotic, like the warm banana spring rolls in which bananas are rolled in caramelized phyllo and topped with a rum-caramel sauce and macadamia nuts. |
