THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The E.U. Restaurant Review:

Despite a beautiful interior designed by AvroKO and a solid concept (a gastropub), The E.U. had some issues in the beginning, such as being near a ghastly stretch of Avenue B teeming with louche lounges. Now, however, the E.U. has achieved some stability. It is a culinary tour de force of the continent (assuming one considers Europe to end somewhere near Austria), sourcing ingredients from different countries in a single dish. Start with the butternut squash risotto simmering with Parmesan and speck before moving on to the roasted loup de mer with leeks, truffle aïoli and chestnuts. The pairings seem scattershot but are well executed, though the tapas and appetizers lend themselves better to the approach. Sandwiches include a leg of lamb panini on focaccia with olives, arugula and pomme frites. Combined with the over-sixty-bottle wine list, The E.U. is one of the more adventurous yet homey restaurants in the neighborhood.
