E2 Restaurant Review: E2 (E-squared) opened as a hot brunch spot. When chef/co-owner Kate Romane added dinner, the casual eatery catapulted into the limelight as a beloved neighborhood social hub. Ingredients are seasonal and emanate from both local purveyors and Romane’s partner’s farm. The dynamic kitchen produces a dizzying array of choices: bites, such as marinated olives; tasting platters of fine artisan meats; a chalkboard of nightly specials; a chef-driven menu of familiar yet unusual appetizers, mains, soups and salads served in large, often sharable, portions. Enjoy easy-rolling meatballs in red sauce or edgy grilled shrimp with garlic anchovy butter, chilies and parsley, or seared scallops atop butternut squash, fried leeks, mushrooms and truffled pumpkin seeds. Many of the pastas shine: try fettuccine with spicy Sicilian marinara and focaccia crumbs. Desserts are limited and simple --- biscotti, berries in season. Brunch items change frequently, ranging from a bag of ginger and sugar sourdough donuts to eggs and toast. It’s BYOB with $6 corkage.
