THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED East End Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:
An epicurean outpost on the eastern edge of the city, this sophisticated but playful restaurant has yet to even out its practices in the kitchen. The cuisine is creative and contemporary---beholden to all regional influences, but belonging to none. Perhaps for this reason quality can be a bit inconsistent. The signature East End Chicken is a safe bet. The gleefully diverse appetizer menu includes baked Brie, seared scallops and salmon ginger pot stickers. The restaurant is located in the historic building that once housed the very first Shakeys Pizza. Though the current owners make no effort to obfuscate the buildings humble beginnings (and even seem rather proud of them), theyve renovated the interior thoroughly. The dining room is now chic and slightly 1920s-era retro with warm lighting, live jazz, and an ever-changing display of original artwork. The bottomless glass of Champagne offered at Sunday brunch is a nice touch---though it might send you to bed before sunset.
