This branch of Alfredo Diaz’s Silver Lake coffee shop keeps pace with its fashionable Beverly Boulevard neighbors; he installed cylindrical orange lanterns, brown banquettes with transparent orange chairs, and a wraparound patio with curvy aqua seats. Breakfast items include omelets, pancakes and corned beef hash. More ambitious diners opt for country fried steak or the "big mess," a scramble of eggs, potatoes, vegetables, sausage, cheddar and anything else that’s handy. Unfortunately, the menu doesn't always work. The pork chops are thick-cut, but bland, and the biscuits are leaden. Still, most dishes sing. Lunch centers on hearty salads, burgers and melts, plus macaroni and cheese and daily blue plate specials.
