El Asador Restaurant Review: Looking at the menu, you might think you're ordering the standard Mexican dishes Southern Californians have grown to love, but that will teach you to take an enchilada for granted. These distinctly Nicaraguan enchiladas may be filled with seasoned rice and meat, but they’re given a Central American spin by being coated with egg and then deep-fried. Meat-centric highlights include fritango (a hearty dish of fried pork ribs served with a mixture of rice and beans) and pollo tapado (chicken sautéed with tomatoes, peppers and olives). A significant portion of the menu is devoted to sea creatures, including shrimp stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon and deep-fried whitefish in garlic butter sauce. |
