El Callejon Restaurant Review: This relaxed and festive Mexican cantina is a favorite with local chefs and foodies, as well as families, friends and couples, young and old alike. El Callejon features freshly made sauces and house-crafted tortillas. We like the quesadillas that combines molten cheese, smashed potato and chopped chorizo. Taco choices are many, ranging from pork loin and red snapper to flavorful carne asada and pollo. The chicken mole is complex and as good as any found in San Diego. Stews include a classic chicken caldo, and a richly flavored tortilla soup is sprinkled with crushed dried chilies. All of these choices taste even better when enjoyed with one of the margaritas made with fresh limes and spiked with a fine tequila from the expansive list. Traditional mariachi music on the weekends enlivens the packed house.
