El Crater Restaurant Review:

El Cráter offers the unique opportunity to dine on the edge of the Pululahua volcanic crater. The restaurant, which occupies a separate building from its affiliated hotel, presents views on both sides: either of the valley and city of Quito, or of the crater and the lush Andean highlands. On the walls are raw canvases covered with the signatures of the many politicians and VIPs who have dined here, such as Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez. (The restaurant is located near the Middle of the World monument, a popular stopping point for visiting dignitaries.) Start your meal with Ecuadoran specialties like plantains and empanadas. For main dishes, select from pastas, chicken dishes like coq au vin, or several preparations of steak. Shrimp specials are available on Saturdays and Sundays. Desserts include apple strudel and maracuyá (passionfruit) mousse.
