| Latin food may be hip, but even when times were tough El Meson continued to serve authentic Cuban dishes in a homey atmosphere of warm colors and friendly faces. Try the platos Cubanos, which include tender marinated beef, chicken and pork smothered in garlic sauce and served with saffron rice. Other entrées feature tropical flavors like plantains, yucca and raisins. Typical of a tribute to an island, seafood dishes sing here. Go for the dramatic paella del Meson, the Spanish saffron rice dish baked with chicken, sausage, lobster, shrimp, fish and mussels. Purists like the simple red snapper, pan-fried with garlic and olive oil. If you must eat Mexican food at a Cuban restaurant, try the chicken mole, smothered in mole-poblano sauce. Definitely order wine; El Meson has a notably thorough list. |
