THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED El Sombrero Restaurant Review

: New York City never has been known for great Mexican food, especially if you want it cheap and fast. But down on the Lower East Side, El Sombrero (colloquially known as The Hat) has been serving up Tijuana-style rice and refried beans for years. The place isn't pretty---just Formica tables, cheap plates and a jukebox that has to compete with Spanish television. Regardless of the noisy ambience, the guacamole is fresh, the arroz con camarones (shrimp with rice) is pleasing, the thick burrito de ropa y enchilada (shredded beef) is tasty and the chimichangas---plus a frosty margarita---really hit the spot.
