THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Elan Restaurant Review:

Chef/owner David Waltuck closed his revered Chanterelle after 30 years and went into hiding for a while. He jumped back into the action with this decidedly more casual Flatiron restaurant. The concept is a nod to Asia here, a hint of American comfort food there. Waltuck takes some chances that for the most part pay off. Who knew, for example, that guacamole and sea urchin were such a good match? Or that the truffle-loaded arancini could be so addictive? It’s a welcome sight to find Waltuck’s longtime signature dish, the scallop and shrimp stuffed sausage, on the menu (and it tastes as good as ever). The duck and foie gras burger sounds better than it actually is. Likewise, the General Tso’s sweetbreads held promise until it was underwhelming on the palate. Desserts are a bright spot, especially the Gorgonzola panna cotta. The wine list is lengthy and boasts some affordable options.
