THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Elmo's Cajun Cuisine Restaurant Review: Nondescript, barn-like buildings line Belle Chasse Highway, across the Mississippi from New Orleans. Inside one of them is Elmo s, a family-style restaurant with no pretensions, affordable prices and as much shellfish on the menu as the law allows. Crawfish appears in a pie, a bisque, a cocktail, a jambalaya, an étouffée and with fettuccine, as well as in a sauce ladled over fried-crawfish tails or fish. The bisque---no cream here---appears to be the leader of the pack for its lustily spiced taste. Other good dishes are the stuffed crab, shrimp gumbo and crabmeat-stuffed mushrooms. A couple of hundred seats fill the vast dining room, its stained-wood walls lined with calendar-quality bayou scenes.
