Emmy's Spaghetti Shack Restaurant Review: The affordable prices may be the lure, but it's the tasty homespun Italian food and funky, easy-going atmosphere that keep the Mission/Bernal Heights locals coming in droves. No-nonsense spaghetti (with or without meatballs) anchors a daily menu that is handwritten and propped up in flea market-style frames on every table. More inspired dishes such as wine-roasted oxtails, succulent leg of lamb, or crisp flatbread generously topped with purple-basil pesto, Fontina and pine nuts reveal what the kitchen can accomplish. Complement your meal with a glass of wine---or, rather ridiculously, a forty-ounce bottle of "ironic" malt liquor. Save room for dessert---the warm seasonal fruit crisps topped with melting vanilla ice cream are worth the wait. |
