| In the space that was formerly filled by the Euro-ish Café Sha Sha comes Employees Only, a cozy communally-owned eatery-bar by former employees of Lucky Strike, Pravda, Tavern on the Green and Schiller's Liquor Bar, among other New York restaurants. The design, which relies on wood paneling with long, narrow vertical backlights and rounded walls, hints at Art Deco, alluding to most of the employees'-owners' Central and Eastern European backgrounds. The menu, which touches on some unlikely spots on the planet---from Serbia to Sweden---is prohibitively short, featuring only a small handful of items, and even fewer wine selections. Still, the pork loin stuffed with dried fruit and served on a bed of butternut squash is complex and loaded with flavors while the Serbian charcuterie platter boasts some of the best chicken liver pâté this side of the Adriatic. |
