If you can, snag one of the banquettes facing or in front of the glassed-in kitchen. It’s like being at a chef’s table---without the noise and scent. The dimly lit dining room is, like most steakhouses of its ilk, clubby-cool with earthy leather seating, natural stone accents and background music that’s second fiddle to the scene at hand. The massive menu has some nice twists; we recommend the fiery hoisin-serrano calamari with crispy garlic and scallions, and the massive shrimp cocktail crowned with neigh-inducing horseradish. A little less thrilling are the entrées. Steaks have arrived well-done, albeit with a great blue cheese crust, and the lobster may be chewy. Seasonal desserts redeem things. Foster-style apple crêpes and a duo of crème brûlée (one chocolate) with berry and chocolate dipping sauces are memorable. |
