THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Epazote Oceanview Steakhouse & Z Ocean Bar Restaurant Review:

The evolution of Candice Sullivan’s Epazote continues with the addition of Z Ocean Bar. Now, along with oceanfront steak and seafood dining, one can nosh and mingle in the renovated bar and lounge, which also features some Pacific views and numerous happy hours. Classic 1940s-era cocktails, martinis and margaritas join the long list of appetizers. To start, we like the baked apricot-Brie and togarashi tuna tataki, which comes with a lot of seaweed and packs some heat, courtesy of wasabi. There are some beef-free entrées, from seafood to lemon linguine, but steak is the star here. Carnivores should forgo the beef appetizers, including carpaccio and steak skewers, in favor of a steak as a main course. The top-quality Angus beef entrées range from a tender six-ounce filet mignon to a sixteen-ounce bone-in rib-eye to our favorite, the 22-ounce porterhouse, which has a smoky, deep flavor. True steak aficionados may eschew the choice of five toppers, preferring their beef “pure,” but the sauce bordelaise enhances the flavor of the beef without overwhelming it. Catering to the meat and potatoes crowd, executive chef Justin Hoehn offers six different potato sides, including truffle garlic cheese fries, as well as a mac ‘n’ cheese and a few veggie dishes. Among lunch offerings, the enormous Cobb salad is a standout, dominated by grilled red onions with huge chicken chunks. Instead of saving room for dessert, allot the calories to a signature martini, a choice from the wine list, or end your meal with a glass of port or Cognac.
