Jack's Lounge started life as the annex to chef-owner Dean Corbett's fine dining establishment, Equus. Thanks to the recession, as Jack’s stayed packed and fewer diners selected the tables at Equus, the child outgrew the parent and the two restaurants have merged into one. All the rooms now feature armchairs, sofas and little side tables so patrons may lean back in comfort and linger over dinner, drinks and conversation. (No children are allowed, a better policy even than no smoking.) A few Equus signature dishes, such as creamy, spicy mushroom fumé, have been grafted onto the Jack's bar menu. Dean's Ultimate Nachos, a daily pizza and daily pasta creation, not to mention a notable burger, are menu stalwarts. Entrées rotate a bit with the seasons, but pot roast and fried chicken are almost always on hand. The short but first-rate wine list has been assembled by a sommelier who likes to consult on food and wine pairings with guests. But the real stars of the sipping show here are bar manager Joy Perrine's cocktails. If you are saving room for dessert, you might consider her signature Bourbon Ball (Woodford Reserve bourbon, Tuaca, and dark crème de cocoa) instead.
