Jack's Lounge was originally the cozy, sofa-lined area where patrons might sip a cocktail and enjoy an appetizer while waiting for a table in chef-owner Dean Corbett's adjacent fine dining establishment, Equus. However, the two spaces and the two menus merged into one. While a few tables remain, all the rooms have groupings of armchairs and sofas arranged around low tables conducive to protracted dinner, drinks and conversation. (No children are allowed in this very grown-up setting, by the way.) Signature dishes include the creamy, spicy mushroom fumé, plump crab cakes. bourbon-laced shrimp Jenkins, and the always satisfying Jack’s burger. Other favorites are fried chicken with mashed potatoes and kale, nightly pasta creations, and smoked lamb ribs. The short but first-rate wine list is reasonably priced and there’s a good selection of draft craft beers. But the real stars of the sipping show are bar manager Joy Perrine's cocktails. If you saved room for dessert, consider her signature Bourbon Ball (Woodford Reserve bourbon, Tuaca, and dark crème de cocoa) or Spiceberry (spice-infused Woodford and a splash of cranberry juice) instead.
