Ernst Cafe Restaurant Review: Ernst Café will never be a New Orleans “must see” place, but it is nonetheless reliable and consistent. This Warehouse District tavern shines during its bustling after-work cocktail scene or late at night when its full-service kitchen can prove providential to hungry drinkers. Order a quaff from the lengthy brew list to enjoy along with a po’ boy sandwich, especially one with shrimp. Home-style main courses (red beans, baked macaroni, fried shrimp) provide sustenance primarily for bar patrons. Most of the other options are uninspired renditions of such all-American dishes as chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and fried fish with french fries. Desserts are hit and miss, but nothing extraordinary. Service is adequate at best.
