Exposed brick walls, banquette seating and earth tones, as well as wood tables and chairs, create a warm atmosphere at this relaxed, contemporary Greek restaurant. The standards of this ancient region are expertly prepared and served without any surprises or disappointments. Saganaki, a flambé of pan-fried kefalograviera cheese and Cognac, is rich and pungent. A pikilia, a sampler of Greek spreads including a spicy feta cheese, Greek caviar, roasted eggplant and garlic, and mashed chickpea hummus, is ideal for sharing and a solid introduction to typical Greek mezedakias or cold appetizers. Main courses are varied and center on the land and the sea. Spanakopita, a baked crispy multi-layered spinach and feta pie, is classically Greek, while a lavraki, a grilled Mediterranean sea bass seasoned with lemon and olive oil, is light and flaky with a touch of zest. A wine list consisting of international and Greek selections by the glass and by the bottle offers the possibility of enhancing an authentic Greek menu with wine pairings from the region. Baklava is, of course, among the traditional desserts.
