Evening Star Cafe Restaurant Review: As with all good eateries, Del Rey’s Evening Star Café has undergone some changes, especially visible in the menu, which has graduated from all-the-time comfort food to more sophisticated on-the-town dishes. Consider such offerings as Cajun duck rillettes, grilled oysters (local, of course) and that much beloved entrée, buttermilk fried chicken served with braised collards and boiled peanuts. It can’t get much more Southern than that, though the kitchen does offer dry-aged rib-eye and seared sweet potato dumplings. And for dessert, check out the fresh fruit cobblers or the black bottom banana cream pie, guaranteed to double your calorie intake for the day. If all this suggests it’s a dress-up place, don’t worry: families still rush in for early dinners, kids in tow. |
