In the mood for a little dinner with live music? Head to Fanny & Alexander in downtown Palo Alto where they feature a dinner-and-music-venue theme. Come for dinner and pay no cover charge to hear local rock acts. Or pay a nominal cover charge on Thursdays through Saturdays to hang out at the bar and order from the snack menu (quesadillas, pot stickers, calamari and beer-battered onion rings). For dinner, start with spicy Thai shrimp in a coconut-curry glaze sided by spinach and onions; crab and shrimp cakes with sweet chili and chive oil; or white wine sautéed mushrooms. Main courses include Pacific salmon filled with shrimp, spinach and mushrooms rolled and baked in nori served in a garlic-black bean sauce; and the spicy shrimp cioppino stew with oregano and served with crusty garlic bread.
