THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Far Western Tavern Restaurant Review:

Since 1958, this landmark has been the go-to place for authentic Santa Maria-style barbecue. The time-honored relish tray and bay shrimp cocktail appetizer remain, but the addition of chef Rick Manson (previously of Chef Rick’s in Santa Maria) has created a fun “old-school/new-school” dichotomy in the menu: go for the Far Western’s signature “bull’s eye” boneless rib-eye (also available at Sunday breakfast) with baked potatoes, or look to the nightly specials for a rib-eye served over sweet corn and linguiça hash topped with crispy onion strings. Manson has also brought some favorite Chef Rick’s recipes with him, such as a hearty roasted garlic soup and banana beignets for dessert. The moderately priced and predominantly local wine list complements the fare, and if a Zinfandel will fit the bill, go for the house wine from Dusi Vineyard in Paso Robles.
