Down on the harbor front and housed in a large sophisticated-rustic dining room with a terrace facing the fountains, this farmer-owned restaurant belies its earthy roots with an elegant décor. The kitchen sends out farm-fresh food with a creative twist. It’s hard to know where to start, since the choices are so diverse. While you ponder, enjoy some of the best bread in town spread with sweet butter, and try to decide between an entrée salad, American farmhouse pizzas, a soft-shell crab club, truck-style tacos (no sides here and rather skimpy for a macho guy), or a cowboy chicken with mashed potatoes. But maybe it should be the Wisconsin grilled cheeseburger, a choice patty of ground sirloin layered on a grilled cheese sandwich and accompanied by a stand of hot, salty fries. Start with the appetizer of chocolate-dipped bacon, perhaps the most decadent treat in town. And finish up with the devil's food chocolate cake or the carrot cake.
