THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fat Hen Grocery Restaurant Review:
Situated right on the St. Charles streetcar line, Fat Hen Grocery turns out biscuits, omelets and waffles, and creative versions of traditional eggs Benedict, such as one that perches a poached egg atop crispy crawfish cakes. Start lunch or dinner with the fried chicken liver appetizer, best with some blue cheese dressing on the side. Fresh and tasty (albeit somewhat overpriced) entrée salads may tempt, but the sandwiches, burgers and barbecued items are really the restaurant’s calling card. Ordering a quarter-slab of ribs avoids going "whole hog." For comfort food, the chicken potpie and the meatloaf come in generous portions. Good sides include the crab fried rice, Parmesan truffle fries and "Grandma Powers potato salad." For dessert, check out the "crack pie," an oatmeal cookie crust with a custard filling, similar to chess pie. This is a good place to carry out food in bulk if you’re having a party --- popular items are priced in large quantities, as well as per entrée. No alcohol.
