THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fat Hippo Restaurant Review:

Fat Hippo aims to make itself a home for hungry night owls on the Lower East Side, with a kitchen that’s open late serving crowd-pleasing, absorbent food. Exhibit A: the fondue burger, which, thankfully, does not involve dipping an entire patty into a bubbling fondue pot, but rather pairs “five cheese fondue dipping sauce” with skewered sliders. Other dishes include pan-fried mozzarella balls with tomatoes and arugula, turkey meatloaf with tamarind ketchup, and a creamy green bean casserole. If that isn’t enough, there’s a “trailer park chicken sampler” with beer can roasted chicken, a fried drumstick, and a smoked thigh. All heavy stuff that appeals more and more as the night drags on. Are these dishes successful? Sure, though they sound more adventurous than they are. Fried chicken and meatloaf, even with “international flair,” are still traditional American comfort food.
