| The name of this restaurant comes from one of the meals it serves: grilled eggplant mixed with tomatoes, mint, cucumber, Italian parsley and green onion, sprinkled with sumac and tossed in a special lemon vinaigrette. It’s traditionally the first thing eaten after the yearly Ramadan fast. Here, you can eat it any time, and locals do. Small tables are regularly crowded and piled with fattoush or mansaf, a nomadic creation of lamb cooked in aged yogurt with rice, roasted almonds and pine nuts. Add $12 to any entrée price and the "royal feast," with many more side dishes plus dessert and mint tea, is yours. |
