What began in 1989 as a diminutive neighborhood bakery has evolved into one of the largest purveyors of breads and partially-baked dough, supplying restaurants and grocery stores across the country. Founder Nancy Silverton began a tradition of artisanal bread-making in L.A. Her dreams morphed into a massive commercial operation, and the original shop has since relocated to this warm and inviting space nearby. Behind the counter are stacks of bread loaves (brioche, ciabatta, organic wheat, etc.) and in front are pastry cases stocked with croissants, cinnamon rolls and more. Line up for a baguette or chocolate croissant to go or settle in for a full meal at one of the tables or booths along the exposed brick wall.
