| Formerly a hot-spot in Greenport, Fifth Season is now a homey two-story restaurant in Port Jefferson Village. Chef-owners John Urbinati and Erik Orlowski pride themselves on providing a fresh, local experience with farm-raised meats and organic produce, as well as American-produced wines and beers. In keeping with the restaurant’s name, the menu changes every 12 weeks, and the quality of the food encourages return visits to experience the eclectic offerings. Seasonal soups and a crisp Caesar salad are mainstay appetizers, but try the organic chicken wontons with pineapple-coconut dipping sauce to start for a mix of crunch, tang, and sweetness brought together by the moist chicken. The grilled skirt steak with sautéed spinach, warm fingerling potato salad, Parmesan and truffle butter is a fine play on comfort food. A children's menu includes mini Kobe beef burgers, grilled beef skewers or homemade macaroni and cheese. Desserts abound, but we recommend the vanilla bean crème brûlée and pineapple upside-down cake with toasted coconut and coconut gelato. |
