Fitler Dining Room Restaurant Review

: Fitler Dining Room aims to elevate the neighborhood storefront restaurant to a new level by combining the look of a French-style bistro with a seasonal American menu. The windowed-corner spot features subway tiles on the walls, wooden tables with crisp white napkins and Bentwood chairs, as well as an open chef's kitchen with a marble counter. Executive chef Robert Marzinsky takes an ingredient-driven, globally-inspired approach to starters such as a Moroccan-flavored salad of carrots, toasted pesto, sheep's milk yogurt and cashews; and wild burgundy snails with potato gnocchi, hazelnuts and chartreuse butter. For entrées, staples like hanger steak are freshened up with the addition of peanut-flecked Asian slaw. Vegetarians will find plenty to savor in the whole-wheat farfalle with toasted walnuts, pickled chilies and Cranberry Creek Monomonock cheese. Desserts --- think Grandma Jean's apple brownie with cider caramel and maple ice cream --- will remind you of home, or compose a cheese plate from ten selections. The only off notes come from the insipid pop soundtrack, which is not nearly as inspired as the fare.
