THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fitz's Soda Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

Fitz's can be enough to make a curmudgeon grin. This strip mall, less-appealing spin-off of the original University City location, also sports a bottling line for the root beer (and other flavors). It clanks merrily along, a sort of microbrewery for kids, and some who work the line have a better sense of theater than some actors we've seen. Watching the watchers (entranced kids, dads and granddads---and some moms, too) can be as much fun as glomming what's going on behind the glass wall protecting the bottling. In addition, the service is less crisp than at the original. Family groups predominate during the daytime hours; later on, it's a younger crowd. (On Delmar, they card for admission to the second floor games area.) The menu seems to concentrate on burgers and designer pizza. We'd suggest heading for the pulled pork sandwich, surprisingly tasty barbecue for a place without a pit, or the fish-and-chips, fish that won't be confused with chicken breast, served properly with malt vinegar. Dessert can be something like a root beef float (with an excellent local chocolate ice cream), of course, or the bread pudding, which is a little erratic, but mostly is stunning.
