THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Flavor Del Mar Restaurant Review: Flavor Del Mar has two distinctive personalities. First is the lively bar scene bathed in blue light, where patrons enjoy sophisticated plays on bar food and ingredient-driven cocktails like the "chipotle cilantro," with Hangar One chipotle vodka, pineapple, agave nectar, lime, cilantro and a smoked paprika-salt rim. Crossing the bridge, one enters the tranquil white, glassed-in dining room with views of the Pacific. Here, the kitchen presents an intriguing menu with thoughtfully constructed dishes. We like chef Brian Redzikowski's tuna crisp --- shaved ruby-colored big-eye rests on a delicate chive phyllo, dressed up with a garland of micro shiso and drizzled with white truffle oil. Other temptations include a nest of lobster tempura slightly piquant from Serrano chiles and tamed with sweet ponzu, or seared Maine diver scallops with potato foam. Sommelier Jerome Astolfi, formerly of Market Restaurant + Bar, has put together a knockout wine list, and owner/partner Jeff Hunter is a charming host.
