THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Flintridge Proper Restaurant Review

: Local couple Brady and Mary Elizabeth Caverly, inspired by the pub culture of England and Ireland, designed The Flintridge Proper to be a warm, nurturing environment for residents of affluent but restaurant-poor La Cañada Flintridge. By all accounts, they have succeeded, and the kitchen turns out familiar comfort foods with a twist. The dining room has a bistro-like feel to it, with vintage tile underfoot and wooden bookshelves with local memorabilia above traditional green banquettes. A white marble counter is great for solo diners. The busy bar features a massive horsehead arch --- a replica of what once spanned an area bridal trail. For starters, chef Kevin NaPier turns out deviled eggs topped with little chunks of cold fried chicken and pickled onions, spicy duck wings and a blue cheese lettuce wedge. A turkey potpie covered in latticed pastry is a house specialty, as is the respectable burger. For dessert, consider a flourless chocolate cake with its molten peanut butter center, or the house-made brioche donuts; there’s also a sundae cart. The bar offers the longest list of gins you’re likely to see anywhere (literally a couple hundred), although the wine list is disappointingly short.
