THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Flora Bar Restaurant Review:

Occupying the lower level and the adjacent outdoor area of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's contemporary art space, The Met Breuer, is this restaurant from Ignacio Mattos and Thomas Carter (Estela, Café Altro Paradiso). The modern and airy dining room, characterized by granite pillars, slate floors, marble tabletops, glass, and dark leather in varying shades of natural and neutral tones, blends seamlessly with the Marcel Breuer-designed, concrete-dominant venue. Small and medium size plates are meant to be shared. Red shrimp with sea urchin are blanketed under crisp squares of nori that serve as tidy wraps, allowing the contents underneath to be picked up and eaten in one bite. The fiery orange and pulpy appearance of the sea urchin, a visually arresting sight, is cleverly concealed, but the pungent essence of seafood is not. A snow crab is simply prepared and presented, and accompanied by yuzu kosho mayonnaise. Tuna tartare comes with potato and truffle, and bears toasty notes and crunchy textures. Lamb ribs arrive nicely seasoned, tender and juicy; the naturally robust lamb taste is tempered by an accompaniment of yogurt and mildly spicy mojo verde. However, halibut, while cooked to the right consistency, was watery and lacked flavor; it was complemented by asparagus and sabayon. The globally sourced wine list includes selections from lesser known but highly regarded regions, such as a sparkling white from Jura.
