THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Florentine Grille Restaurant Review: The Florentine Grill is a small, dimly lit restaurant that aspires to be Providences version of a family-run trattoria in the heart of Tuscany. Most of the details are in place: Waiters who speak romantically about the food, diners with joie de vivre and an accessible menu. The cuisine here is lusty, rib sticking and admirably faithful to its Northern Italian roots. The dozen-plus pastas include papardelle bolognese (handmade ribbons with the slow-cooked meat ragu) and gnocchi sealed with three cheeses and tomato sauce. Salads are big enough for dinner, topped with grilled meats, mushrooms and copious amounts of cheese. Save room for the entrées, which tend to be both austere and boldly seasoned. Pork tenderloin is grilled and finished with a clove-laced Barolo sauce. Sausages rest upon a mountain of beans, tomatoes, garlic and onions. The house masterwork is the bistecca Fiorentina for two (per due at Florentine), a 44-oz. sirloin, bone-in, grilled with olive oil, lemon and rosemary.
