Flying Sumo Sushi Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: Different ownership could turn this neighborhood sushi restaurant back into a local favorite. The staff is trying harder to please, and the sushi chef uses the freshest fish for his inspired rolls like the Chuck Norris, made with tempura shrimp, crab, jalapeño and “death paste” topped with yellowtail and avocado. Start with Tokyo nachos (spicy tuna, flying fish eggs, green onions and wasabi mayo) or the jalapeño poppers stuffed with spicy tuna and then tempura-fried. Less adventurous palates will like the tender chicken in coconut curry sauce. Save room for the Half Pipe dessert, a sweet finale of tempura-fried bananas, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, caramel, cinnamon and whipped cream. Generous portions make up for the heavy squeeze to your wallet. Take your date to one of the quiet back booths for the right impression. |
