This gleaming magnet for the young and the restless of all ages is a romantic cross between a 30s roadside diner and a 40s big-city bar and grill. Created by Cindy Pawlcyn of the Real Restaurants group and designed by Pat Kuleto, Fog City was packed when it opened, and it is still popular. Order from the small plates menu: crispy calamari with fennel slaw and lemon aïoli, or a vegetarian quesadilla. Large plates always include a smoky rib dish, a roast half chicken, pork loin or the house meatloaf flavored with wild mushrooms. Desserts are over-the-top. Breakfast includes house-made almond and coconut granola, and mascarpone-brioche french toast as well as a pulled pork Benedict that substitutes buttermilk biscuits for English muffins and injects the hollandaise with barbecue sauce.
