This inviting downtown restaurant’s cuisine has inventive touches thanks to its chef, Julie Simon. Sourcing products from local purveyors, Simon may offer miso-glazed black cod with grilled summer vegetables; coffee-braised short ribs; and a spot-on croque madame (no surprise given her French heritage). For dessert, try the flourless chocolate cake with macerated seasonal fruit. While focused on local labels, the wine list extends nicely to the rest of the globe, and there’s a good lineup of beers and ciders as well. Several seating options are available: the main dining area, a front lounge, the wine bar and the burrata bar. Expanding the place’s appeal is Sunday brunch, a daily happy hour and a stand at San Luis Obispo’s Thursday night farmers market.
