Located smack in the middle of historic Irvington, Foster & Dobbs is an enjoyable place any day or week. Crowds show up for the regular Friday evening wine tastings, gatherings that bring neighbors together, with many often lingering into the evening for more wine and a shared cheese board or two. The store is an ideal destination for finding food gifts and gourmet treats with its carefully curated range of cheeses, chocolates, charcuterie, oils, wines and bar mixers. But the food offerings, which feature wares sold in the store, are no afterthought. Order one of the eye-catching, made-to-order sandwiches, such as the finocchiona salame with Cypress Grove chèvre, Three Figs onion confit and greens; or the Smoked Gouda with a stack of bresaola (cured beef) and a slathering of fig jam. Beecher's cheddar stars in the grilled cheese, and Olympia Provisions mortadella in the bologna sandwich. Salads and homemade soups round out the options. A children's menu shares the same quality standards with very reasonable prices. Service is knowledgeable and friendly, and the staff will accommodate any food allergies.
