THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fourth Story Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review: This cozy enclave perched on the penthouse level of the famed Tattered Cover Bookstore, has its own quirky and delightful personality. The plethora of books and black and white photos of writers lining the walls create an ambience that transports us light years from the suburban aesthetic of the neighborhood. At night, the lights of the city lay like a carpet below---and we imagine were in some European capital instead of directly across the street from the upscale Cherry Creek shopping mall. Menus change with the seasons, and every Tuesday night we show up to savor the Taste Drive Menu. The patron gives the server a clue to his budgetary boundaries by choosing any car from Volks bug to Rolls--and may even detail accessories for fun. Then Chef David Steinmann invents a spontaneous surprise menu to accommodate these guidelines with the best of the kitchen that particular evening. For appetizers, weve enjoyed rock shrimp cake with pineapple-chili chutney and black bean puree, and Prince Edward Island mussels; favorite entrées have included confit of duck with caramelized onions and hash browns and the New York strip with ancho chili sauce and Key lime butter. Be sure to save room for the chocolate espresso torte. On Sundays, the buffet brunch accompanied by the music of live acoustic guitars is a destination in itself for upscale Denverites en famille, groups of friends, and pairs of lovers.
