The Meatpacking District has undergone a near complete transformation since Frank's opened in 1912. Back then, and until the last couple of years, one was far more likely to see animal carcasses lining the streets than hipsters en route to the latest wine bar or club. Although it moved to bigger and more upscale digs a couple of years back, Frank's remains true to the neighborhood's roots, serving good oversize steaks and pleasant Italian dishes in an unpretentious environment---all at a somewhat lower price than you'll find at most other steakhouses in town.
