A serious cocktail spot in The Keating hotel.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Frauds and Swindlers Restaurant Review:
Aidan Demarest and Dave Whitton, who have made their mark on the Los Angeles bar scene with Neat and Villains Tavern, respectively, teamed up to create Frauds and Swindlers in the Gaslamp Quarter. (They are also behind Two Fingers Upstairs --- also located in The Keating hotel --- which specializes in spirits served neat.) Inside the dimly lit space is a long L-shaped bar, with additional seating provided by church pews put up against the wall. The cocktail menu is divided into sections for various spirits, such as vodka, gin, rum, whiskey/Scotch and tequila, plus punches, “sno cones” and non-alcoholic pressed juices. Handmade fruit leather garnishes the Inigo Montoya, made with blanco tequila, agave, citrus, bitters, jalapeño and cucumber, while a “bramble of blackberries” perches atop the icy peak of the Bourbon-based Bellerin’. Food is not served, but hungry patrons can get a slice of pizza at The Italian Next Door.
