THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED fRedhots & Fries Restaurant Review:
Owner Fred Markoff didn’t necessarily come up with an original idea here (Hot Doug’s in Chicago has been around for some time). However, he---along with an increasing number of area sausage-slingers---did zero in on a formula that works. This ketchup and mustard colored hot dog stand serves up regular old fast-food fare, but it also offers game sausages. Personally, we aren’t wooed by the reindeer dog, which tastes just like a traditional Vienna with caramelized onions on top. The crisp Belgian frites with mayo-based artichoke dipping sauce are quite good, though. Watch for a changing rotation like smoked Louisiana alligator and pork sausage and Santa Fe chicken sausage topped with fresh pico de gallo. And if you’re not in the mood for a sausage of some sort, know the Merkts cheese-topped burger is a solid alternative. Hours may change with the seasons, so call ahead.
