| Friend of a Farmer has a lot more going for it than the faux-farmhouse décor. The baked goods are uniformly first-rate, and the sandwiches, always made with homemade white, wheat or other breads, are terrific. The menu changes with the seasons, as does the selection of pastries, muffins and strudels. For starters, you might try the Parmesan herb encrusted shrimp on a bed of mixed greens drizzled with garlic-infused olive oil or the Maryland lump crab cakes with chipotle pepper aïoli and roasted corn salsa. Appealing main courses include old-fashioned chicken potpie; braised lamb shank with whipped beet mashed potatoes and carrots; or ranch hand spinach meatloaf with carrot mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables with mushroom gravy. Desserts change seasonally with the rest of the menu, but are always delightful. |
