Friendly Fisherman Seafood Restaurant Restaurant Review:

This eatery has been a landmark on the John's Pass boardwalk for two decades (a lifetime by Florida restaurant standards) and it still offers inexpensive seafood with a view. Diners can watch the boat and bird traffic up and down John's Pass, and the restaurant is a handy respite for shoppers mobbing the gift and T-shirt shops that line the boardwalk. Nearly 25 seafood platters are offered. Often, there are buffet specials with an emphasis on steak, lobster and chicken. Start with the appetizer of bacon-wrapped jumbo shrimp, then go for the Gulf-fresh grouper, particularly broiled or served as a sandwich. Alternatives include mangrove snapper, tuna, salmon and freshwater snook, when available. The homemade coconut ice cream, served in half a coconut shell, is a dessert favorite. If the kitchen's not too busy, the restaurant also offers a you-catch-it, we-cook-it option. Be sure to call ahead.
