Sleek and shiny, with an open floor plan and large windows overlooking a busy downtown corner, Fuzio Universal Bistro is a popular mid-week lunch spot as well as a casually hip weekend hangout. The fusion menu features international twists on salads, pasta, panini and a few full-size entrées. The pasta is the best way to go, with flavors from across the globe: linguine and meatballs, sukiyaki noodles, pad thai, even a Southwestern-style gemelli pasta with chipotle sauce. The hands-down best is the firecracker pork fusilli, the al dente pasta holding up well against the heat of the shredded, ginger-braised pork and habanero pesto, cooled slightly with a dollop of cold sour cream. Another good bet is the dish of Shanghai noodles, doused in a rich lemon grass curry broth and topped with tender sliced grilled chicken. Weekday happy hour specials feature $3 appetizers, such as the cambazola and bacon focaccia or Vietnamese spring rolls, and $1-off cocktails.
