THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Galvin - Bistrot de Luxe Restaurant Review:

Chef-brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have been part of London’s burgeoning restaurant scene for some time. They began well: Jeff was at l’Escargot and Chris at The Wolseley and Orrery. Now they have seven restaurants across London and Edinburgh and continue to offer top cooking at friendly prices. The menu here is a lesson in bourgeois French classics that many chefs could do well to emulate. Simple dishes are prepared with love, such as escargots à la Bourguignonne; steak tartare with toasted sourdough and Maille truffle mustard; Bistrot de Luxe cassoulet à la maison; and roast leg of Herdwick lamb, kashke bademjan, baby spinach, yogurt and cumin. Equal care is taken with desserts like Mandarin soufflé with dark chocolate ice cream, or apple tarte Tatin with crème fraîche. Starters weigh in between £6.50 and £19.50 (steak tartare); main dishes between £18 and £32. The wine list is fair on pricing and has a section of fine wines. There’s a small downstairs bar and the restaurant has jazz evenings. Galvin is packed with customers whose purrs of satisfaction can be heard all the way to Oxford Street. The 3-course lunch at £21.50 and 6pm-7pm dinner at £23.50 confirms the value.
