Ganda Restaurant is one of our 2012
| Top 10 LA Thai Restaurants
|
| East Hollywood tempts us with dozens of Thai eateries, all with varying attributes. Thai Town’s Ganda remains high on the short list for its authentic home-style dishes, especially available as quality yet bargain-priced lunch and dinner combos. Tucked into the back of a neighborhood restaurant strip-mall, the room is light and airy with blond wood tables and tall glass windows. A sprawling buffet-style steam table takes center stage, and friendly waitresses are happy to give you a tour of the dozens of offerings that change daily. The rich mussaman curry is particularly compelling, as is the crispy catfish and tender stewed pork leg. Ordering off the lengthy menu results in such items as green and red curry, various noodles including pad thai, and other familiar classics. But it’s also worth exploring outliers like black olive with minced pork, thousand-year-old egg salad, stewed duck noodle and fried crab cake. House specials focus on fish---we are quite partial to the deep-fried trout with fresh green apple sauce. Cash only. |
